Study Overview: A Quantitative Framework for Heat Rejection Technology Selection

As direct-to-chip cooling becomes standard in high-density data centers, external heat rejection has become one of the most consequential and nuanced decisions in facility design. To provide a technology-neutral basis for navigating the complexities of technology selection, BAC conducted a simulation-based study comparing leading external heat rejection technologies across diverse global climate zones.

Key Findings: The Right Approach Is Specific to Every Project

The study found no single technology is best across every location and priority. Climate largely dictates how each performs, and every option carries its own tradeoffs between energy, water, cost, and infrastructure. The right approach is defined by the specific conditions and goals of each project, from the physical realities of the site to the operator's long-term plans.
