BAC Formally Introduces the Trillium™ Adiabatic Cooler TRFS for Large-Scale Data Centers
Baltimore Aircoil Company, Inc. (BAC), the world's cooling partner, announced the launch of the Trillium™ Adiabatic Cooler TRFS, a double stacked adiabatic cooler engineered for hyperscale and colocation data centers. Combining BAC's proven adiabatic design with patented intelligent controls, the TRFS delivers an added performance boost in applications where dry cooling alone may not be enough.
Backed by thousands of adiabatic installations worldwide, the TRFS helps data center operators achieve lower fluid temperatures, reduce peak power demand and PUE, minimize water use, and increase free cooling opportunities. It supports high-density chip cooling requirements, reduces the effects of air recirculation in large deployments, and allows sites to meet design conditions without oversizing chillers or infrastructure.
With more capacity per unit than dry coolers, the TRFS reduces unit count, connections, and installation time. Its adiabatic design helps maintain capacity, even during high ambient temperatures. It also adapts to water-cooled chiller, chiller-less, and direct-to-CDU designs, and can allow chillers to be downsized or eliminated.
The TRFS is engineered for low annual water consumption and can be configured to align with site priorities, including water constraints, permitting requirements, and sustainability goals. Factory-installed adiabatic pads and smart controls provide cooling only when needed, automatically balancing water and energy use.
"Data center operators are being asked to meet more aggressive temperature, power, and water targets on increasingly compressed schedules," said Dustin Cohick, Market Leader – Americas Data Center at BAC. "The Trillium™ Adiabatic Cooler TRFS gives them a way to use water only when it matters most and gain meaningful capacity and efficiency benefits in return. It's already operating at multiple hyperscale and colocation data centers."
Global manufacturing, reliable lead times, and a pre-configured design that shortens engineering cycles help the TRFS keep pace with hyperscale timelines. Additional features include optional Whisper Quiet™ fans with sound reductions of up to 13 dBA, automatic night-quiet operation, lower steel support requirements, built-in redundancy across fans, motors, and drives, easy-access service platforms, and pre-programmed controls with a UL enclosure for fast startup and troubleshooting.
The TRFS is also available as the Trillium™ Dry Cooler for water-free operation.
